Dr Yen Dang has successfully secured a Language Learning Early Career Research Grant ($10,000) for her two-year project “A longitudinal study of second language vocabulary growth”. The project aims to examine the growth of different kinds of vocabulary that are important for second language (L2) learners, especially those studying in EMI (English-medium instruction) university programs. This project will be a valuable addition to the limited number of longitudinal vocabulary growth studies. It will provide key stakeholders with useful implications on how to better support L2 learners’ vocabulary development so that they can make a smooth transition into EMI study. As commented by the reviewers, this is ‘a strong and compelling application’ which ‘meets all five of the review criteria with convincing scientific merit and relevance’.
